| In a state so rich in nature and history, it comes
as no surprise that the citizens of Covington County are vilianly fighting
to preserve its heritage. Their art, music, and customs are celebrted in
the county. You are invited to share in the culture.
The 11th annual Okatoma Festival will come to life May 6, 2000 in Collins.
The festival is designed to bring people back to nature with true Southern
hospitality.
This year, more than 25,000 festival goers are expected to be in attendance
for the opening parade with featured grand marshal Guy
Hovis.
After the parade, guests can enjoy the music of Guy Hovis, the Jones County
Junior College On-Stage Show Choir, the Backroads Band, and Lorenzo Hayes
and the Foxy Lady. |
Festival booths will be placed on the lawn of the
historic courthouse. There, homemade crafts, arts,
and foods will be created.
During the fair, clowns, games, and amusement rides will entertain children.
A highlight of the festival will be the 11th Annual Okatoma Canoe Race. The
race begins in Seminary along Highway 590. It travels 13 creek miles and
includes three main waterfalls. The race finishes in Sanford. Prizes and
T-shirts will be awarded to all participants.
