(from Chamber News, courtesy of Covington County Chamber of
Commerce)
The Okatoma Festival has become a homecoming celebration. The festival beckons
Covington countians from home to visit family, renew friendships and gives
a warm welcome to thousands of visitors.
Tupelo native, Guy Hovis, will be the featured guest at the May 6, 2000 Okatoma
Festival. Guy has one of the most recognizable faces in America. He has been
on television for over twenty-five years begining with Art Linkletter's House
Party Show on CBS in 1967. His television credits include appearances with
Johnny Carson, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Jim Nabors, Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin,
Dinah Shore, and he has been a guest on a number of game shows. He has also
been seen on many TV commercials and has appeared on many national telethons
and fund raisers for various charities. Guy is best known, however, for his
twelve years as a regular member of the Lawrence Welk Television Show.
Presently employed by United States Senator Trent Lott as director of the
Senator's offices in Mississippi, Hovis makes his home in Jackson where he
still finds time to record and keep an active concert schedule.
As Covington County looks to the future, we continue to recognize our heritage
and the people who made our count and state great. We appreciate Guy Hovis'
commitment to be our honored guest and share his gift of music. Begin now
by contacting out of town family and friends to "come home" on May 6, 2000.
